THE ADVENT OF OUR KING

The King of Creation comes once again into your lives at this time of the year in the humble form of a Babe in a manger. Hardly a fitting setting for a King. But that’s only true if you’re looking for an earthly king.

The King of Creation offers freedom to all people. An earthly king can only offer freedom to the people under his control. Now, that’s an oxymoron in and of itself, isn’t it? No one can have freedom if they are under the control of a king. Yet, in this human world where control and freedom go hand in hand, freedom is only available to those who yield to the control of a true leader.

The King of Creation is a true leader! He extends freedom to all. Martin Luther writes: “Christ directs the Jews away from their carnal conception of freedom. It irritates them that He will not lead them to a physical freedom of the flesh. They are incensed because He speaks about a captivity of the people; He implies that they are not free. This is why they call the Lord Christ a heretic and say that the devil is speaking through Him to mislead the people and take them captive.”

The King of Creation is misunderstood and the People to whom God gave the Savior rejected Him. The Jewish people wanted another king like David who led them into a period of prosperity and sovereign freedom unlike any other nation in the world had experienced before him. What they didn’t understand is that Jesus was not a king created, He is the King of Creation.

The King of Creation offers freedom to you too. He offers you the freedom to obey the Laws of God. He offers you the freedom to know that the devil cannot trick you or tempt you into sinfulness that will condemn you to eternal death. For even if you fall and are tempted to sin, the blood of the King has paid your ransom. You are truly free!

The King of Creation comes once again, do not turn away, rather welcome Him as He deserves.
